Magical
Lucca is a charismatic town with an ancient wall that encircles a Romanesque labyrinth of little winding streets. A unique Tuscan town filled with beautiful historical buildings and architectural detail where people come, simply to experience Lucca. The high renaissance walls around the town build a natural barrier between life inside the walls and life outside the walls.
Lifestyle
The town is largely pedestrianised and for most Lucchese, a bicycle is the chosen form of transport. This carefully chosen car free lifestyle only seems to accentuate the tranquil and relaxed pace of life that people live here. The town is full of beautiful churches and towers one can visit or piazza’s and small parks to sit and relax in.
Lazing around town
The winding cobbled streets are filled with small independent shops that never fail to slow down walks across town into a leisurely stroll. Lucca is liberally peppered with pleasant bars and cafes available to linger in over long drinks and watch the world go by. In the evening there are excellent restaurants where one can savour delicious dishes from the world-renowned Tuscan kitchen.
The Wall
Mature trees line and shade the 4 kilometre promenade that cradles the timeless centre of Lucca. It was built in the 1500's to keep pace with military progress and better defend the Republic of Lucca. In the 1900s it was decreed a public walkway. With fantastic views towards the hills of Lucca, the wall attracts walkers, joggers and cyclists from early morning until late in the evening.
